Outdoor Activities

Fly Fishing the Bitterroot River

The Bitterroot River is one of Montana's most celebrated fly fishing destinations, running the length of the valley from south to north with consistent access and healthy trout populations. Known as "the Root," it originates in the high elevation of the Bitterroot Mountains to the west and the Sapphire Mountains to the east, offering a premium dry fly season that stretches nine months of the year. Whether you're an experienced angler or picking up a rod for the first time, we can help arrange a guided fishing trip with a local outfitter. Just ask at check-in.

Hiking in the Bitterroot Valley

The Bitterroot Mountains offer some of the most accessible and rewarding hiking in western Montana. Blodgett Canyon is one of the most popular trailheads near Hamilton, offering a dramatic canyon hike with waterfalls and canyon walls rising over 1,000 feet. Lake Como, just 20 minutes south, is a stunning destination for hiking, picnicking, and paddling. Whether you are a novice looking for a simple day hike or an experienced hiker heading into the backcountry, the Bitterroots and Sapphire Mountains will not disappoint. Trail conditions vary by season, so we're happy to point you in the right direction based on when you're visiting.
